Physical effects of bereavement

After you loose someone close to you there can be many different physical effects that your body goes through.

These can include difficulty getting to sleep, long periods of wakefulness and vivid dreams. You may also lose your appetite. Some people can feel shortness of breath and very tense or edgy and restless, others feel slow and lethargic.

You are likely to feel exhausted, especially if you are caring for that person at the time. All of the hard work that you have put in to caring for them can suddenly hit you like a ton of bricks. Strong emotions and dealing with everything that you have to do after someone has died can also make you feel very tired.

It is important that you take care of yourself, try to eat well and get some rest even if you can't sleep. Take some gentle exercise if you can and above all be kind to yourself. Do not try to do too much when you are grieving.

It is important that you also understand that any emotions you are feeling are completely natural. Do not let the emotions that you are feeling make any physical effect you may be experiencing worse.
